Lima, Peru - Former president Alberto Fujimori met in 1991 with the head of a military death squad that killed at least 25 people, despite his statements to the contrary, a witness in Fujimori's trial said Wednesday. Fujimori, 69, is charged with atrocities committed during his 1990-2000 rule, including two massacres in 1991 and 1992, blamed on an army hit squad known as the Colina Group, allegedly led by army major Martin Rivas.

Luanda, Angola -  Angolan Foreign minister, João Miranda, was received Wednesday in Harare by Zimbabwean president, Robert Mugabe, to whom he transmitted a verbal message from the head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos, ahead of elections set for March 29 this year in that country. "I am here representing the president of the Republic of Angola, to preside over the ceremony of launch of the mission of observers of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC), that will supervise the general elections in Zimbabwe, expected for March 29," said the diplomat at the end of an audience of about 30 minutes.

The French and German leaders, whose relationship has been marred by a series of differences, will brief colleagues at a summit in Brussels on proposals for a Union for the Mediterranean designed to intensify cooperation in the region.
Kuala Lampur, Malaysia - Malaysia's government-friendly media has changed its tone after shock election gains by the opposition, aiming to win back readers alienated by biased coverage, industry sources said on Wednesday. Malaysia's mainstream newspapers and television networks, many of them partly government-owned, were awash with flattering coverage of the ruling coalition ahead of Saturday's polls.
Camberra, Australia - Australia's foreign minister on Wednesday denied a cricket tour to Pakistan was scrapped so players could participate in the lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL). Foreign Minister Stephen Smith said Cricket Australia (CA) made its decision to postpone the tour independently on the basis of security concerns. "I have seen suggestions that somehow the decision by Cricket Australia and the Pakistan Cricket Board is related to proposed Twenty20 games in India. I absolutely reject that suggestion," Smith said.
