Liberia: speaker Snowe walking on thin air
by Michael Kpayili
The crisis at the House of Representative concerning the removal of House Speaker Edwin Snowe continues to escalate with majority members of the House boycotting the temporary venue of the resumption of Legislative duties by Lawmakers after a period of recess.

According to an official statement from House Speaker Edwin Snowe, only 14 Lawmakers appeared for session today with the remaining Lawmakers surfacing at different location in Monrovia. He said the appearance of 43 Lawmakers at the Unity Conference Center for the official resumption of Legislative duties is unconstitutional. He recounted plan by the executive branch of government in undermining his leadership at the House and threatened to expose every bit of evidence he has in his possession.

The House of Representatives became divided after some Lawmakers reportedly acting upon the instruction of the executive branch of government which is headed by the president allegedly bribed other Lawmakers with the sole intension of removing House Speaker Edwin Snowe. The bribery allegation has not been independently verified.

Meanwhile, over 43 Lawmakers of the House of Representatives are said to be convening at the Unity Conference Center as means of an official declaration of the resumption of Legislative functions. The Chairman of the House standing committee on Executive, Kettykumeh Murray is said to be presiding over said meeting.

It is now clear that over 43 Lawmakers convening meeting at the Unity Conference Center are those in support of the recent resolution signed to remove House Speaker Edwin Snowe while the 13 plus Snowe himself are those against the resolution.

The venue of tomorrow Legislative session is yet unclear due to the ongoing renovation work at the Capitol building.
