A new government for Palestine

by Olga Tyomina

Last week a new Palestinian government was formed.
It consists of representatives of resistance movements Fatah and Hamas. Leader of Fatah – Abu Mazen is an official leader of Palestinian Authority and president. Ismail Hanie will be Prime Minister.
At the opening of the official ceremony of the swearing of the government of  the national unity, the head of Palestinian Administration Abu Mazen said: “We are starting a new stage of our fight for the creation of a Palestinian state. This was started by our leader Yaser Arafat to whom we are obliged by unity of our people”
The leader of PA asked the international community to stop boycotting the Palestinian government and to recognize the new government as competent. He also noted that the Palestinian Liberation Organization will continue to be the only representative of Palestinians
PLO and the government of the PA declared the necessity to establish an independent Palestinian State in the borders of 1967 with its capital in Jerusalem and the fair decision of a question of refugees. He also added that Jerusalem as a capital of the future Palestinian state remains the basic purpose of struggle for independence.
On March 17, the head of government of Palestinian Authority declared the Palestinian people’s right  to “resist Israel in all possible forms” and added that it is a legal right of all Palestinians .
The government of Israel interpreted this announcement as a call to terror.
Palestinians in their turn hope that the coalition between Islamic Hamas and the more secular Fatah will stop bloody contradiction between this group that lasted so long and has taken the lives of more then 300 Palestinians. They also hope that the international community will remove financial sanctions.
In Israel opinions about “to recognize or not to recognize new Palestinian government”  are separated. On the one hand representatives of Hamas are talking  about “not recognition of Israel as a state in it’s modern borders, and also a soldier Gilad Shalit is still held by Palestinians and there’s no information about his health condition” also as soon as the new government was formed the minister of strategic affairs Avigdor Lieberman  announced a necessity to stop any relations and negotiations with Palestine, while Prime Minister of Israel Ehud Olmert said that he is not going to stop dialog with Abu Mazen.
There is a necessity for dialogue, there is a necessity for negotiations, because till there is at least a small hope for peace, a small hope for a  peace process, even in its fetus condition, it should be used.
