How many times we
go through different situations that because they are new
or just because of their characteristics, we want to remember
them, to keep them alive in our memory and to tell others
about them… how many time do we feel that urge to capture
all those feelings in a picture, a movie, a drawing… and
how many times this fascination has taken us to write –
without the appropriate tools or in an inappropriate moment
– these circumstances that have called our attention…
So, here it is my starting point… that pleasant urge for
writing that I felt when traveling through different countries
and that has led me to take notes of those trips where not
only I describe situations, facts, people and things, but
also several human feelings that appear involuntarily when
facing new circumstances.
It was that thought, written in my trip diaries, the one
that has driven my attention and made me get daily information
on what is happening I other countries, to cooperate with
“barcellonapg.it”, where I am in charge of the
World News link, and to try “La Specula” experience:
steps taken side by side with other people that have built
something unique and indivisible that involves the pleasure
of living and going through the most different circumstances
and that comes together in the observation of the political,
social and cultural phenomenon of different countries.
This activity represents several situations like the relationship
between the people and a territory, and tries to give value
to the concept of population and nation. Different ideas
that come from the same concept of “people”: on one hand
it refers to all of those that in certain historical moment
lived in a State territory and were ruled by its laws; and
on the other hand, an ethnical and social entity with a
characteristic mixture of races, languages, traditions and
religions.
This is how “La Specula” was born, as a human phenomenon
observation and analysis point that were growing in the
many political communities of the world. A characteristic
that comes from the name, “specula”, latin word that means
observation point or observatory and that modified into
“specola”, it means the current astronomical towers that
can be seen all along Italy or the modern white domes placed
in the mountains where no artificial light is available.
And although incapable yet to make us understand the famous
mystery of the great and improbable “Specula Melitensis”
(1), the Internet
and technology gives us the possibility to set up an “exploration
experiment” that does not limit us to the political news
of the different States but that makes of the international
culture its own symbol, cause there is nothing better than
to live in a map.

“As a Mega Clock created in the Island of
Malta, set up with rounds and cycles artificially placed,
it should show the horizon following the thirty-two winds
and to be the Universal Chronoscope with the Giulian and Gregorian
calendar, enable to state when it is Sunday, when the sun
year would change to moon year, to determine the Sun Circle,
the holidays, the novilunios, the plenilunios, the position
of the Sun and the Moon, instructing ancient men on tide phenomenon
and eclipses, also being an astronomer of the straight Shadow,
the straight and oblique extensions, the end of each year,
month and day fixed stars and that in other seven rounds it
should have the whole astrology, navigation, medicine, botanic,
chemistry and hermetic knowledge”. (U. Eco) |
